FAQ: "PICKy" & selective eating nutrition support

Please reach us at info@stepping-stonesnutrition.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Many children go through phases of selective eating, particularly between ages 2 and 6. However, if limited food variety is affecting your child's growth, nutrition, social life, or causing significant mealtime stress, it's worth consulting a dietitian.

We also work with teens and adults whose selective eating has persisted and would like support in a pressure-free, non-judgmental environment.

Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is a feeding disorder characterized by a highly limited diet that is not motivated by body image concerns. It often involves sensory sensitivities, fear of choking or vomiting, or low interest in food. While selective eating exists on a spectrum, ARFID is a clinical diagnosis that typically requires specialized care. Our dietitians are experienced in supporting clients across the selective eating spectrum, from mild "pickiness" to ARFID.

Yes. Selective eating in adults is more common than many people realize, and it can affect social situations, relationships, travel, and quality of life. Many adult selective eaters have never received support because their struggles weren't recognized as a child. We offer a non-judgmental, adult-friendly approach to expanding food variety at whatever pace feels right.
